Ranong Town

Ranong Town is surrounded by nature. Evergreen mountains, preserved jungles with rare preserved orchids, birds and monkeys, mangrove forests, waterfalls, hot springs, several islands with stretched beaches, mark the nature of Ranong and make the area an outdoor adventurers paradise.

Ranong Town is just situated in the middle of it all. The town was established about 200 years ago by Hokkien-Chinese and nowadays you can still experience the Chinese influence. As the buildings are built in a typical style and the main road is packed with local traders, Ranong is a small but ambitious town. Once a year during May this is celebrated at the "Grand Opening of Ranong", a few days of festival.

The main road in Ranong town is called the Ruang Rad Road. In this road you can find traders of all kinds in typical "Ranong" style. Transport is organized by motor bike taxis and by songthaews, which will take you within in a few minutes to your destination in Ranong.

Also you will find several banks in Ranong, offering ATM and exchange service. Examples of Banks are the Bangkok Bank, the Siam Commercial Bank and the Khrungthai Bank.


Getting Around

It is very easy to get around in Ranong Town, as there are many local songthaews (also known as tuktuks). The Songthaews al have a number and most of them have english written signs with their destinations. You will find Songthaews passing by in every street, looking for people who need a lift. The fare is about 7 baht within town.

You can also rent a motorbike at several places, like Kay Kai Internet Cafe and Boy's Motorbike Rental. Both are situated in Ruang Rad Road. Don't forget to wear your helmet, otherwise you might have to pay a fine!
